Last year was an amazing year for our fellowship of churches, so let's take a moment to look back at what many in the ICOC are calling a turning point year. From Haiti and Miami to Manila and Zimbabwe, we covered all the big stories...
1. We begin in January in Haiti, where a 7.3 Earthquake struck the capital Port-Au-Prince. The quake killed 200,000 people, and left half the city homeless. The ICOC responded heroically, donating over $1million to Haiti through HOPEww. Since the earthquake, almost 100 have been baptized into Christ, and HOPE continues to help the disciples get back on their feet. Our Video was seen around the world in 4 languages… VIDEO REPORT
2 - In February we reported about the NEW YORK CITY REVIVAL... over 500 baptized and restored in the last 2 years. Also the baptism of Marajin Tanidjaja in Jakarta, Indonesia. Marajin is 100 years old! VIDEO REPORT
3 - The big story in June was the 8 church plantings going on in Nigeria, Ghana, and Sierra Leone. These plantings, financed by the local churches, all had huge inaugural services, and many have been baptized since the plantings. The Lagos church itself has grown by almost 200 disciples this year to about 1800 members. We also cover the HOPE Global Summit… VIDEO REPORT
4 - In July Chicago hosted the North American Campus Conference. Over 2000 campus disciples attended, the largest gathering of campus disciples by far in our history. In the USA our campus ministry has doubled to over 3000 disciples in the last 3 years. Not only in Chicago, but in 20 cities worldwide, roughly 5000 campus disciples attended our 20 campus conferences this year. VIDEO REPORT
5 – In August the Manila church hosted 1600 singles from around the world for the Int'l Singles Conf. ARTICLE
6 – 2020 VISION VIDEOS… September saw the first releases of our 2020 Vision Plans. Texas, Singapore, New York, and Nigeria have all produced videos about their plans. More videos will be coming out soon. You can watch all the 2020 vision videos at the HOTNEWS HOMEPAGE. Scroll down the right column and you’ll find the list of 2020 vision videos. They are inspiring!
7 - September also brought news of incredible growth in Zimbabwe, in spite of a terrible local economy in what is now the poorest nation on earth. Here at HotNews we are simply amazed at the courage and love of these disciples. This year the churches in Zimbabwe grew by 27%, and they appointed their first ever Zimbabwean evangelist. ARTICLE
8 - In September Miami hosted the Int'l Leadership Conference, which was our largest and, most agree, our best in years. Many church families launched their 2020 visions. Hotnews was impressed at the Unity of the leaders who gathered, the humility displayed in attacking and solving problems, and the faith of all the participants. The Coop plan is working, and Miami saw Elders, Evangelists, teachers, HOPE workers, communication types, campus leaders, teen leaders, Singles leaders, and everyone else get things done. It was an amazing conference. ENGLISH VIDEO. ESPAÑOL VIDEO
9 – USA campuses had an incredible finish to the year. We reported on all the baptisms, and the campus conferences around the world, like the record breaking All India Youth and Campus conference in Chennai. Almost 1000 gathered for fellowship and prayer. VIDEO
10 - We closed out the year with the Intl Day of Giving for HOPEww. Around the world, churches took up contributions for HOPEww Philadelphia, to enable HOPE Headquarters to continue administering and directing their worldwide ministry to the poor. VIDEO
2010 was a great year. As churches we grew numerically, we grew spiritually, and we grew closer together. LA has baptized 1300 people in the last 2 years. New York over 500 in the last 24 months. Equally encouraging are the dozens of larger churches around the world that have turned it around and started growing. In fact, for the first time in over a decade, our 20 largest churches are all growing.
As we all dream about our 2020 plans, and begin to plan out our church plantings, let us continue to trust God, trust his word, and give thanks to him daily for the wonderful times of revival we live in.
