Proverbs 25:25 "Like cold water to a weary soul is good news from a distant land."
ENTRY NINETEEN – FEBRUARY 12, 2008
19 – Moses and the Destruction of the Midianites Numbers 31
One of the hardest concepts to reconcile is the idea that a loving God could, at least from our vantage point, encourage violence and even wipe out whole nations. This entry, which covers just one day’s reading, will attempt to address that issue, with lots of help from Dr. Smith’s narration!
The news coming off campus right now is simply amazing...

When the levee broke in the Ninth Ward in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina, whole blocks of houses were literally swept away. 80% of the city was underwater within a few hours. The house in this photo was swept away by the flood water, and came to rest on another foundation, on top of a pickup truck. On July 3-6 this summer, we will be having a campus conference like we have never had before. On July 4th we will be cleaning up lots in this neighborhood so that new construction can begin. PLEASE COME HELP THESE PEOPLE on July 4th. Join us for a campus conference you will remember for the rest of your life! Click on
ENTRY EIGHTEEN – FEBRUARY 11, 2008
18 – The Story of Balaam Numbers 22-25
Our theme this year as a church is ‘A family of God that dreams’. We are especially praying and dreaming that God will bring back many people who fell away or stopped coming to church due to the division in the church. God is blessing our efforts as we are contacting old friends; over 20 people are attending our Sunday services and studying the bible again. “‘In that day I will restore David’s fallen tent. I will repair its broken places, restore its ruin, and build it as it used to be, so that they may posses the remnant of Edom and all the nations that bear my name,’ declares the Lord , who will do these things.” (Amos9:11-12)
Hye-Young Woo was an unmotivated college student who was too lazy to even attend classes. Her grades were terrible and she was about to drop out but God saved her life when she was met by disciples and got baptized in 2004. She got disciplined and got her life together to be a light in this world. Her grades improved (she even got all As at one point!), and got a chance to go on an exchange student program to Russia. However, she became prideful and forgot that who she was, was because of God. She started relying on herself and by the time she graduated her heart got hard and she left God in 2006. Many sisters prayed with tears when she left and continued to call her from time to time regardless of her cold responses.
ENTRY SEVENTEEN – FEBRUARY 10, 2008
17 – Moses and The Nation of Israel Experience Growing Pains Numbers 20, 21, 33
This entry covers one day’s reading and contains topics such as patience with God’s timing, gratitude, not grumbling (in case you didn’t get it from the previous two entries), and looking forward to Jesus.
Chanthy’s Story: From Begging to the Bank
Chanthy was eight years old in 1975 when the Khmer Rouge came to power in Cambodia. Four grueling years later the regime was overthrown, but not without leaving its mark as one of the worst genocides of the 20th century.
